Debut 2015 Mustang to Be Auctioned to Benefit Charity

It was just last month that Mustang fans tuned into “Good Morning America” to see the first all-new 2015 Ford Mustang make its debut. When this symbol of American muscle rolled out of the back of a semi-trailer, it marked a new generation for one of the most favorite Ford vehicles of all time. If you do not believe that, just check out its Facebook page. While the production 2015 models will not be hitting Ford dealership showrooms around the country for a while yet, one lucky individual will be given the opportunity to own this special first Mustang on January 18. On that day, the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company of Scottsdale, Arizona will be driving this historic Mustang across the auction block with the proceeds to benefit research for a serious childhood illness.

Celebrating 50 years of the Mustang

2015 Ford Mustang Teaser

While the first Mustang was technically a 1964 and a half, the 1965 model is recognized as the true first Mustang. While the new 2015 Ford Mustang represents a new generation of the Mustang, it also represents a milestone that many car models never even come close to achieving, which is 50 years of continuous production. More than nine million Mustangs have been sold over the past 50 years, and Ford wants to maintain this popularity by offering a new generation and new look for 2015. In those 50 years there have been famous Mustangs on television, in books and in movies, a dark time when the Mustang nearly disappeared due to a gas crisis and recently, classic Mustangs selling for over a million dollars. Ford hopes the next 50 years will be just as exciting and innovative as the last 50, and they will be celebrating their 100th anniversary just as jubilantly. For the lucky winner of the first 50th anniversary Mustang, they will be the owner of a piece of instant history.

The highest bidder of the 2015 Mustang is not the only one to benefit

Since 1983, Ford has been a global partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. Jeffrey Brewer, president and CEO of JDRF appreciates all that Ford does and says, “JDRF is very grateful for the generous and steadfast support from Ford and its employees over the years.” With the Ford Mustang being one of the most popular vehicles at Barrett-Jackson events, Ford thought it only appropriate to auction the inaugural 2015 Mustang off where it would raise the most money for the JDRF. Ford and Barrett-Jackson have raised more than $3 million dollars since they got together to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes. It will also give collectors who missed the chance to buy the first Mustang in 1964 the opportunity to own a new Mustang that marks the beginning of a new journey with the goal to reach 100 years in production. The winning bid on Lot No. 3010 will do more than just sell a Mustang and make it an instant classic, it will make a difference in the lives of children with diabetes all over the world.
